HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician Edinburgh Airport Salary: £42,000 + Excellent Benefits Full-time | Permanent Reed is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading global organisation for a highly skilled HGV Mechanic to join one of the most dynamic engineering environments in the UK . Based airside at Edinburgh Airport , this is a rare opportunity to work in a safety-critical, fast-paced aviation setting—maintaining essential Ground Support Equipment (GSE), HGVs and fleet vehicles that keep the airport operating smoothly. HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician- Working Hours & Shift Pattern Initial period (pre–airside pass): Weeks 1–2: 06:00 – 14:30 (Mon–Fri) Weeks 3–4: 08:00 – 16:30 (Mon–Fri) Once airside accredited (rotating pattern): Shift times: 06:00 – 14:30 / 08:00 – 16:30 Week 1: Monday – Friday Week 2: Monday – Friday Week 3: Monday – Sunday Week 4: Wednesday – Friday On-call required on a rota basis once airside accredited. HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician-The Role As an HGV Mechanic / GSE Technician, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection and diagnostics of airport vehicles and equipment, operating to the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance in a controlled airside environment. HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician-Key Responsibilities Maintain and repair vehicles and plant as directed by the Workshop Supervisor Carry out inspections, diagnostics, brake and smoke tests Complete job cards and inspection reports via tablet system Identify defects, parts requirements, additional works and VOR issues Ensure correct handling, storage and labelling of parts and tools Fully comply with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures Health, Safety & Quality Work safely at all times, reporting hazards, near misses and incidents Correct use of PPE and safety equipment Operate in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards What We’re Looking For Strong mechanical or motor vehicle knowledge Confident diagnostic and fault-finding ability Customer-focused with a quality-first mindset Experience in fleet, plant, logistics or vehicle maintenance environments HGV, Bus or Coach experience preferred Car mechanics considered with strong tenure and transferable skills Qualifications Minimum Level 3 Motor Mechanics / Vehicle Technician qualification City & Guilds or BTEC National Certificate Forklift licence (desirable) Why You’ll Love Working Here Supportive, down-to-earth team with no egos—just results Fast-moving environment where you’re trusted and empowered Genuine development and long-term career stability Work that fits life—not the other way around Part of a global organisation A culture built on integrity, accountability, open-mindedness and passion If you’re an experienced Mechanic looking to build a long-term career at Edinburgh Airport , this is your chance to take your career to new heights.
