Vehicle Mechanic Trainer Location: MOD Lyneham Salary: £37,000 – £39,679 (DOE) + excellent benefits The Role An excellent opportunity for an experienced Vehicle Mechanic / Automotive Technician / HGV Technician to step into a training and instructor role at MOD Lyneham. This position is ideal for hands-on automotive professionals who enjoy mentoring others and want to pass on their technical knowledge. You’ll deliver practical, workshop-based training to learners progressing into military vehicle maintenance roles, helping develop real-world mechanical, diagnostic and repair skills. No prior teaching experience is required - full support and training will be provided. Key Responsibilities Deliver practical vehicle maintenance and repair training in a workshop environment Train learners across areas such as mechanical systems, diagnostics, servicing, fault-finding and repair Prepare lesson plans, demonstrations, assessments and practical exercises Monitor learner progress and provide coaching, feedback and additional support where required Ensure training content reflects current automotive technologies, tools and workshop practices Work collaboratively with fellow Trainers, Tutors and Instructors to continuously improve delivery Ideal Background This role would suit someone currently working as a: Vehicle Mechanic Automotive Technician Auto Technician HGV Technician Light Vehicle Technician Workshop Technician Mechanical Engineer REME / Military Vehicle Technician You’ll bring: Strong hands-on experience in vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repair (LV or HGV) Solid understanding of workshop processes, tools and vehicle systems The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to others Confidence using basic IT systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) An interest in training, coaching, mentoring or developing others Qualifications NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance, Automotive Engineering or similar e.g. City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, IMI, Military equivalent Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (or willingness to work towards this – fully supported)
