Your new company As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives. Hays is seeking to recruit a Painter for HMP Hull. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and will lead to a permanent position for the right candidate. Location: HMP Hull Your new role We are seeking a skilled and reliable Painter to join our team working within HMP Hull, supporting the delivery of the CRED (Creating Responsible Environments) programme. This role plays a key part in improving the prison environment and contributing to rehabilitation outcomes through high-quality maintenance and refurbishment work. Working in a secure environment, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of painting and decorating tasks to a high standard, ensuring all work supports a safe, clean, and respectful environment for staff, residents, and programme delivery. Prepare surfaces and carry out painting and decorating work across designated areas within HMP Hull Apply a range of finishes including emulsion, gloss, and specialist coatings Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with site regulations and security protocols Maintain a clean and organised workspace at all times Work collaboratively with site staff, contractors, and programme teams Follow all health and safety procedures, including the secure handling of tools and materials. Support the overall aims of the CRED programme by contributing to a positive and professional environment What you'll need to succeed Proven experience as a painter/decorator (commercial or public sector experience desirable) Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently and as part of a team Comfortable working within a secure custodial environment (training and clearance provided) Good communication skills and a professional attitude Understanding of health & safety practices in the workplace You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required). Hays and the MOJ are responsible for organising all security clearances and DBS.You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence at your current address.
