Finance Administrator – Central London Trade Union Contract type: Temp to perm Salary: £17 - £19.25 temp hourly rate | £32,000-£38,000 for perm Hours: 34.5 per week, Monday–Friday (core hours 10am–4pm) Start date: ASAP Department: Finance (team of 3, reporting to Head of Finance) Contract: Temporary with potential for Permanent Location: Central London (with access to a great roof terrace for staff socials and sunny-day working) - Fully office based during the temp period About the Organisation This highly respected national trade union stands for a fantastic cause and is committed to fairness, worker rights and long-term positive change. About the Role This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented, proactive Finance Administrator to join a small, friendly Finance team of three. You’ll play a key role in supporting finance operations, empowering regional Treasurers nationwide, and helping to drive improvements in financial processes and systems. The organisation is open to candidates with around 1 year of finance experience , including those currently studying towards their AAT qualification . This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys: Problem-solving and streamlining processes Coming up with new ideas Running or supporting online workshops Building warm, supportive working relationships Working in a purpose-driven environment with long-term career potential Key ResponsibilitiesFinance Administration Support the day-to-day running of the Finance department, including responding to email and telephone queries, and managing incoming post. Maintain and update the purchase ledger, ensuring accurate coding, authorisation, posting, reconciliation, and payment of supplier invoices via BACS. Assist with budget preparation, monitoring and distribution of quarterly budget reports. Support the management of the organisation’s credit card process, including monitoring expenditure, reconciling control accounts, and journal posting. Carry out bank reconciliations and assist with cashflow reporting. Maintain accurate financial filing systems (electronic and paper), ensuring good governance. Provide basic cover for other finance functions when required. Treasurer Support & Workshops Provide guidance and support to Regional Treasurers nationwide on accounting software, posting expenditure and financial recording. Deliver or assist with online workshops that empower Treasurers to process their own invoices and understand financial procedures. Build strong, supportive working relationships with colleagues across the UK. Process Improvement Bring new ideas to improve efficiency and accuracy within finance processes. Contribute to modernisation projects and help streamline systems and workflows across the department. Data & Reporting Assist with producing reports, management information, financial analysis and other ad-hoc data. Maintain the cloud-based expenses system and support payroll updates. General Support wider union campaigns, events or conferences where required. Uphold the organisation’s values, including Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and strict confidentiality expectations. Person SpecificationEssential At least 1 year of experience in a finance or accounts role. GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above . Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail. Comfortable working with numbers and financial information. Good IT skills including MS Office (especially Excel). A proactive approach and willingness to learn. Strong communicator who enjoys building relationships. Ability to work methodically, accurately and confidentially. Desirable Studying for AAT or another finance qualification (or willing to start). Experience with accounting systems or purchase ledger work. Experience providing training, guidance or support to others (informal or formal). What’s in It for You?
